FAQ
Why Gymnastics?
Studies have shown that early childhood movement, including gymnastics, is directly attributed to developing neurological pathways and promoting reading readiness. Also, children who have participated in activities such as gymnastics have longer attentions spans, increased communications skills, general problem solving skills and improved self-esteem. Gymnasts tend to do very well in school.
Gymnasts are among the strongest, pound-for-pound, of all Olympic athletes and are among the most flexible of all athletes. They are very good at both static and dynamic balance. Early on gymnasts learn to fall without injuring themselves. Involvement in gymnastics is an excellent way to improve overall athletic ability and coordination.
What does all this mean for your child? It means that even if your child is not destined to be a high level gymnast, they will still be gaining valuable life experiences during their participation.
My child is interested in competition gymnastics, what should I expect?
If your child has been invited by the gymnastics coach to join the competition team it means your child is demonstrating some talent and skill necessary for competition. When considering joining the competition team, as with any competition sport there are additional time and financial considerations. For example, a gymnast at the competition level practices all year round, they practice despite school closings, and there are fees associated with competing including the requirement to join the Booster Club. The competition season runs from October through May. It is an honor to be invited to join the team which requires a commitment of the the gymnast and their family. Please ask the coaches and Booster Club Board as many questions as you can prior to making your decisions. To contact the Booster Club Board check the link on this website for the contact information. The gymnasts truly enjoy the competition team.
